Olive oil and honey are famous local products of Nikiti and of Chalkidiki in general. Local fresh fish is also of excellent quality.
Honey
Nikiti has a long tradition in bee-keeping that goes back to 19th century and even earlier. The climate and flora in Sithonia and Halkidiki in general are ideal for bees which produce excellent honey especially from pine trees. The tradition in bee keeping is now a thriving profession which contributes largely to the local economy. Honey production in Nikiti is 10% of the total production in Greece.
Olive oil
Olive tree is the main agricultural cultivation in Halkidiki. Local olives are famous for their size and taste while their oil is rich in vitamins and flavor and contains no cholesterol. This is due to the dry climate of Halkidiki, unique in Northern Greece, and the perfect adaptation of the local species of olive tree to the environment. Nikiti has large areas of olive groves which produce excellent oil and olives.
Fish
Nikiti has a strong and longtime relation with the sea. Many people are fishermen and sailors by family tradition. Local fish is of excellent quality because the sea of Sithonia is warm and unpolluted with no main ship routes passing by. However, the demand is high during summertime, so most fish comes from other areas. If you want local fish you should find a local fisherman and buy directly from him.
